The Dog Watch
Index of Nos.
1 to 57
Edited by Harrow
Morgan
Editor's
Notes:
q
The first
three editions of the magazine were not numbered, but had the year of publication
on the cover. For sequencing in this index I have numbered them in squared
brackets.
q
Commencing
with the fourth edition the edition number appears on the cover and not the
year. For clarity I have put the year of publication in squared
brackets
q
The title
of The Annual Dog Watch was chosen to differentiate it from the quarterly
newsletters entitled The Dog Watch published from Jan. 1939 through
to August 1946. It retained this title ending with No. 27 when it was changed
to The Dog Watch. Curiously edition No.46 is titled Dog Watch.
The editorial for No. 27 and the article 'What's in a name?' in No. 28 make
interesting reading on this subject.
q
The text
for this index is taken from the Table of Contents of each edition. It appears
that each Table of Contents has been produced without reference to previous
editions. Several authors are listed in different formssometimes with
initials for first names, at other times first names in full. Sometimes a
known second initial has not been included. I have endeavoured to standardise
to the most common form. Where the author's initials only are given and I
am certain of the identity of the author I have substituted the common form
name.
q
In several
situations neither source nor author have been listed. I have endeavoured
to identify the article's author or source and have included it in squared
brackets.
q
The indexes
of both Nos. 31 and 33 did not include the list of authors or sources. I
have included them in squared brackets.
q
In No.
40 there is a valuable story on The Dog Watch that is a tribute to
Miss S.A.E. Ström. The author is unnamed, but well may have been Joyce
Lambert
q
The year
of publication appears on the title page of each edition and on the spine
commencing with edition No.28. Curiously there was no publication in the
year 1947.
q
In order
to reduce clutter in the index I have deleted the words 'the late' before
the author's name together with the phrase 'from the papers
of'.
q
From time
to time the Hon. Editor has repeated articles from earlier editions of The
Dog Watchgenerally from editions no longer
available.
