About this magazine...

This magazine, a collection of sea stories, has been produced annually since 1943. In October 2000 The Dog Watch, No. 57 was published by The Shiplovers' Society of Victoria.

Over the past 56 years there have been hundreds of articles written by a wide variety of people, all who share a common love of the sea and have a story to share. There have been numerous articles published covering such topics as: sailing ships through the ages, previously untold maritime exploits of both World War 1 and World War 2, the RMS Titanic, the Cutty Sark, restoration of ships and stories about famous shipwrecks and maritimie museums of the world, to name but  a few.

The Dog Watch 57 features articles covering the history of the Gelibrand Lighthouse; James Craig - a unique ship for the Southern Hemisphere; Lighterage on Norfolk Island; The wreck of the Isis and an essay discussing the medical history of Vice Admiral of the White, Horatio Neslon to name but five of the 24 articles.

The aim of this homepage is to provide information on the past, current and future publications—a comprehensive index of all articles, authors and ships that have featured over the past 55 editions is in preparation. The Hon. Editor of The Dog Watch encourages users of this site to communicate, offering suggestions, comments and contributions be they articles, anecdotes or pictures.
